Membership in RSA enables members to acquire access to a growing collection of e-books that will encompass essential texts in the Humanities. This collection is being developed and maintained by the American Council of Learned Societies.

The RSA Board is pleased to announce its academic year 2011-12 funding opportunities to support activities that contribute to the professional and scholarly development of graduate students. RSA graduate students and student chapters may now submit applications. There are two categories of funding:

Annual Funding for Student Chapters

Special Event Funding for Student Chapters or Graduate Students

ANTCZAK NAMED RSA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

I am thrilled to announce that Frederick J. Antczak, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, has been named the next Executive Director of the Rhetoric Society of America. Antczak will begin his appointment during the summer of 2012 and will serve a renewable four-year term. He will succeed Gregory Clark, who has held the position since 2008.

Those who attended the RSA 2011 Institute in Boulder had the opportunity to hear an outstanding keynote address by Peter Simonson, Associate Professor of Communication at the University of Colorado. Titled "Our Places in a Rhetorical Century," the address touches on several key themes of 20th century rhetorical theory and criticism.

If you attended the 2010 RSA Conference in Minneapolis, you should soon receive your copy of the collection of papers that emerged from the conference. Rhetoric: Concord and Controversy, edited by Antonio de Velasco and Melody Lehn, comes to each conference participant for free, paid for by conference registration fees.

RSA Nominating Committee Invites Your Suggestions

This is an election year for RSA. The Nominating Committee, composed of Cara Finnegan, Jeff Walker, and Jack Selzer, will be proposing candidates for seats on the Board of Directors. Two candidates will be nominated for each position. Two of the seats are reserved for students. Student Board members serve a two-year term; others serve a four-year term.
