The Truth Behind Cheney's Faces

Well. I don't usually link to Fox News clips, but this one seems worth a peek. So THAT'S why Cheney was making those weird faces during the State of the Union address. :)

snoop vs. OH-Reilly

Submitted by ddd on April 1, 2007 - 3:32pm

A YouTube clip from a TV show in Amsterdam on which Snoop Dog is the guest and Bill O'Reilly becomes the target. I have to admit that I was ROFLing over this one. But beyond that, note that O'Reilly's logical phallacies, ahem, overfloweth here. Not to mention the hypocrisy, since The Bill has always been against gun control...until now, apparently, when he needs to be against it to get one more in on Snoop--who, typically, could not care less.

Let's analyze this fascinating approach to advertising: author ethos? intended audience? purpose?

OhMiBod

Submitted by ddd on March 9, 2007 - 8:48am

One more for you before i get to work: On The Rosewater Chronicles this morning, Josh treats us to this hysterical ad for what he notes is an "overdetermined" new product: the iPod dildo, aka: the "OhMiBod."

Josh, of course, approaches it all very intellectually, offering a fascinating rhetorical analysis of the ad itself. A teeny snippet, but i recommend going to the site for a full read:

What is interesting is that the “inventors” (as if!) of the iDildo (or the “OhMiBod”) make the process of marketing it transparent on the website (see the “evolution” link and the FAQ). Part of that marketing ploy is a new variety of the classical emotional appeal: “The OhMiBod vibrator is a whole new way to enjoy your iPod® or any other music player. Everyone loves music. Everyone loves sex. OhMiBod combines music and pleasure to create the ultimate acsexsory™ to your iPod.” (It is not true that everyone loves sex or music, but we’ll go with it for now.)” It’s a synesthesia appeal, the notion that multiple drives can be stimulated at once!

Mmmm....kin i git one of those?
