With sadness, I forward news from Purdue. The following email is from Nancy Peterson, head of the English Department. We have lost an important member of the rhetoric community.

Dear all,

I am sorry to have some very sad news to share with you about Linda Bergmann. Linda passed away suddenly yesterday morning at home. She was a wonderful colleague and friend, and we will miss her dearly.

Conference Presentation Don'ts

Three weeks ago, I presented a paper at a graduate student English conference in North Carolina. It was my first time both to attend and present at an English conference, so in some ways it was nice to start with the relatively low stakes of a grad student event. My fellow presenters were my peers, not professors or others professionals. On the other hand, the fact that the stakes were low almost certainly contributed to the uneven quality of some of the presentations I saw.
