ANALYST - CENTER ON EXTREMISM
Based in New York, the analyst will advance the mission of ADL's Civil Rights Division Center on Extremism by researching and monitoring extremism and nativism in the United States. Write internal memorandum, public reports and articles. Participate in strategizing and implementing policy based on research findings. This position is specially funded for one year.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Read and analyze mainstream and extremist news sources for trends in extremism and nativism in the United States.
Answer questions and respond to requests related to extremism and nativism (i.e., figures, groups, etc.).
Work with relevant staff to formulate agency strategies to respond to and combat extremism and anti-immigrant rhetoric and ideology.
Communicate research findings to internal and relevant external audiences via written reports and verbal presentations.
Produce web-based and printed articles, press releases, letters, reports and memos.
May supervise interns on projects.
Master's degree in political science, history, international relations, sociology, English, Jewish studies, or related field; or commensurate experience.
Three to five years in policy analysis environment.
Excellent research skills in online and traditional environments, with meticulous attention to detail.
Knowledge of anti-immigration movement in the United States a plus.
Proficiency with MS Office applications, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
Proficiency with social networking sites.
Proficiency with PowerPoint, Lexis and other commercial databases a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Mature analytic skills, with ability to contextualize research findings and determine areas for further research and evaluation.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to bring about a high degree of intra-divisional and inter-division cooperation.
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when necessary to complete work projects and speaking engagements.
