A New History of. . . .

The book I want someone to write: a history of rhetoric and oratory in the US. I think I've found a model for what such a history might look like: the Harvard UP "New History of" series, including German , French, and American literature (this last is perhaps the most innovative of all). The order is chronological, identifying not only key works but also events and theoretical debates. (The analysis of the Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book as a species of hard-boiled lit in the American history is worth the price of admission.)
