Unless I'm mistaken, it appears that all the examples cited in the story are of penguins in captivity, i.e., in zoos. That would seem to be an unfortunate, not to mention ironic, counterpoint to the (human) assumption that gender liberation of a sort has been discovered in another species.
As for the "giddy-tingly" sensation, hmm, it may be those smart Frank-Sinatra-nightclub tuxedos. Either that or the iron cages within which they walk their différance.
