Knowing full well Jim will probably remove himself from my committee.
I'm equally as dismayed that W is going to speak here. Not surprised, but dismayed. I wanted more from our University president.
That being said, what she is doing is serving her constituency, and that is not only to be expected, but especially from Murano. While I think she is wrong about most things, I also know that she has gone out of her way to go to bat for the students here. She's said some ballsy things to some really important people because, as she expressed it, she wants A&M to be a good education value. She knows we can't be the cheapest and still be as good as we want to be, but she also knows that there is some pretty wasteful spending happening, the students pay for it, and a lot of it goes back to the state of Texas and the regents, and she has stared down both groups for the sake of her student body.
She's not as smart as I want her to be. She's not as eloquent as I want her to be. She CERTAINLY doesn't agree with my politics - but I think "hack" is an unfair label. Especially from the student-who-pays-more-in-fees-than-I-would-for-tuition from perspective.
You know, I really want FDR to be my favorite POTUS. I truly do. But then there is that whole "internment camp" fiasco. I have realized, sadly and with much disappointment, that there will never be a public figure I can get behind 100%. And administrators will always suck. ALWAYS. But I'll put in a good word for Murano - she's done some good things for us.
But if you want to protest W's coming - I'll lead the charge.
A great song by the Grateful Dead, and the most awesome rendition ever is on One from the Vault, which is a 1972 show if I recall correctly.
Now, for a totally inappropriate use of the blogora: Jim, you should answer my emails about dietary matters for your impending visit to UT Austin next week. Pretty please?
