One pivotal moment in my political consciousness occurred at Penn State in Fall 2000, when I realized that most of the graduate students agitating for TA union recognition were supporting Nader. It seemed self-indulgent to me then. (He had already proclaimed support for gay rights to be "gonadal politics" he wasn't interested in. But people I knew following the progressive "line" at the time didn't care.) Now he continues to show his true colors.
