McCain's Pick?

Submitted by Jim Aune on August 28, 2008 - 4:13pm

Any Blogorists want to bet on McCain's pick? It's a bit of heresthetic tackiness to wheel him (?) out tomorrow,in order to cut down on Obama press coverage, I think, but that's what all this has become: constant short-term tactical maneuvering, in hopes that something works. If he picks Lieberman or Ridge, it really is all over for the social conservatives. I'm betting on Romney or Huckabee, probably Romney. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Kay Bailey Hutchison been unwelcome at the Texas GOP convention because she's pro-choice?

romney or kay bailey hutchinson.

He'd go Romney if he wants to play it safe (even though Mormon is hardly safe for the religious right), or Hutchinson if he wants his own "historical moment." It could really go either way, but I'm starting to suspect it'll be hutchinson given all the misgivings a lot of Clinton supporters still have about Obama, and hutchinson appeals to a lot of them.

All of this runs the risk of me saying people will vote their gender, but that's not what I'm saying and that's ridiculous, but you can't help but notice some of the Clintonites and what they're saying is frustrating them. If McCain decides that that's the deciding criteria for enough disgruntled Democrats, then Hutchinson it is. If not, money's on Romney.

Drudge is saying that the name will be leaked at 5 p.m. central time, with a confirmation to follow at 7 or 8. If it's Ridge, it will be fun watching Limbaugh's head explode. . . .
