Finding Flow

Submitted by Adria on August 14, 2009 - 7:51pm

As I begin my final year in the PhD program, I find myself doing a lot of reflecting: reflecting on who I think I am (at the moment, anyway--forever the pragmatist) as a scholar for that important research statement, reflecting on my voice as a teacher for the ever-evolving teaching statement, reflecting on where I've come from and thinking about where I'd like to go as I put together my CV. And also reflecting on how I'd like to be better at all of the above. Like Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's book, I'm reflecting on finding flow.

Kurt Ritter's Retirement from Texas A&M

Submitted by Adria on June 11, 2009 - 9:11pm

Kurt literally founded the department in 1982 by himself. Here's Team Rhetoric at Texas A&M, from left to right (so to speak) sitting: Jim Aune, Jen Mercieca, Christopher Swift, Tasha Dubriwny; standing: Kurt Ritter, Jennifer Jones-Barbour, Leroy Dorsey. We are all immensely grateful.

I watched Earth 2100 the other night. I thought it was horrid: an either-or set-up of what the world will be like depending on whether or not we all decide to be more Green or not. But it did get a discussion going in the room about how to motivate people...

Immigration protests break out on West Mall

Submitted by Adria on April 29, 2009 - 9:20am

I think someone on here just asked when the swine flu would be used in immigration/border debates. Well, check out the table of the Young Conservatives yesterday on UT's campus (West Mall is the tabling area of student interest groups). I am DELIGHTED there was an overwhelming counter-demonstration made up of students walking by...

Battaglia vs. Horowitz, Tickets on Sale Now

Submitted by Adria on April 1, 2009 - 8:14pm

Okay, well my title of this post is April Fool's, because I'm not really going up against D'Ho in a boxing match.

UT's Young Conservatives have invited David Horowitz to lecture on UT's campus, April 9 at 7pm (Jackson Geological Sciences Building, Rm. 2.324).
